Autumn is the best time of the year in Hamilton. Or so I’m told. I haven’t lived there long enough to know.
Still, there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence. By way of example, I hear the weather there this week has been perfect. Blue sky, pleasant breeze, short sleeves.
The central coast of New South Wales? Not so much. I thought I’d drive to Wollongong today, to admire the beautiful coastal views.
First stop: Sublime View Point.
I’ll have to take their word on it. This is the view I got:
Now I wouldn’t want to suggest that the foggy view before me represented the ambiguity of God’s love. Instead, I took it as a reminder that the love of God is something we sometimes have to take on faith. That is, although His love is constant, we don’t always experience it. Perhaps especially when we’re weighed down by shame or anger. But it’s there, and it’s real, and it’s unconditional, just like that (allegedly) sublime view, hidden by the cloud.
It could be taken another way of course. How many references are there in scripture, of clouds and the divine presence?
But do you want to know the real lesson I’ve derived from this view? If you live in Hamilton, don’t take your holidays in April!
Do not take your vacation in Kent in April, either. It has been cold and bucketing down with rain until today. And, now I have a bad head cold and cannot enjoy the one day of sunshine. It is really cold–47F or so….and I brought frilly summer clothes!
However, the rain comes down on the just and the unjust, so enjoy your view, Father and I shall try and enjoy mine from the inside (sniff).
Supertradmum, yesterday I drove through city of melbourne with car airconditioning on. then into suburbs it was still warm. Then last night through my kitchen window, I watched beautiful sunset through the leaves of native plum tree whose leaves have nearly all gone, but still some. It was beautiful. we see beautiful sunrises and sunsets and beacuse it is two stories and faces hills during winter we see the most perfect rainbows arches. Just standing in lounge room and watching rainbow helps me to remember that promise made.
Today its drear like images Fr John posted. but thats Melbourne 4 seasons in one day or two.
