This humble blog has been named in Catholic Dating Site’s 100 totally awesome blogs by Catholic priests. I’m joined in the list by another Aussie priest, Fr Richard Healy of the Diocese of Wollongong, who blogs at frrick.org.
The list is “arranged in no particular order,” but that hasn’t stopped a few Facebook friends congratulating me on my number 11 ranking.
The compilers of the list are good publicists. No one over there has actually read my blog — they’ve just plucked out a few of my main tags and described them out of context — but they have contacted all one hundred priests on the list and asked us to link to the list, “if you think that your readers may find it of interest.” Well, why not?
Here’s an explanation of their site:
Managed by Joseph Atkins, this site is the only dedicated resource for unbiased information and tips for safely using online Catholic dating websites. To achieve that goal, Catholic Dating Sites provides feature articles and blog posts designed to educate readers about the online dating options available to Catholic singles who are wondering whether trying a dating site is a good idea for them, and if so, which one to select.
Online dating is probably still a bit stigmatised. For example, I have prepared several couples for marriage who have told me they met online, but they weren’t exactly shouting this detail from the rooftops. They generally asked me not to tell anyone.
But the fruits speak for themselves. Online dating can lead to marriages. I’ve encouraged more than one good Catholic, who is fed up with the moral calibre of men or women they meet at pubs and nightclubs, to consider Catholic online dating. CatholicDatingsSites.net is a good first step.
Meanwhile, another Facebook friend has wondered if my ranking in the list “calls for a return to daily posting?” Well, yes. I have been slack. I’ll do better.
Online dating makes me cringe, not to mention the safety factors involved in meeting someone randomly from a dating website, even a Catholic one. I think people should pray rather than put themselves ” out there” as available, and if its God will the right person will be thrown in your path. People were married quite happily without the Internet in days gone past, a little trust in Gods will and he will look after you.
Indeed. Though I’d add there’s nothing wrong with praying and putting oneself out there. Not sure it’s an either-or approach. “God helps those who help themselves,” after all.
I agree Fr. John, well put!
However putting oneself out there must not come across as being desperate though haha!
God does help those who seek Him first,
However the safety of mutual friends and connections are much better in my opinion than dating websites. There are a great many groups that have like minded people who know their faith, mostly outside your local Parish, but they they do exsist.
Indeed both are necessary. To pray and to do something practical about meeting practising Catholics of the opposite sex. Prayer being the more important of the two. Unless you are blessed to belong to a parish or prayer group or covenant community which has a lot of people your age of both sexes, which in these days is getting rarer, then in order to find the future spouse that God has been preparing for you an online presence on a Catholic dating site worthy of the name is a real option not to be overlooked. One of the benefits is that you can say that you are looking for a spouse, and only candidates who are also looking for a spouse will make contact. That is half the battle! Much better than beginning something with someone who just isn’t ready yet to even start thinking about a marriage commitment.
Hi Catherine!
Are you aware that Google is flagging your blog as malicious? To quote verbatim, “Content from catholicdaily.net, a known malware distributor, has been inserted into this web page.”
I hope you get it sorted. I’ve had this hassle a couple of times. I just pray you haven’t been hacked!
